The Sons of God
Many people accept the idea that the "sons of God" in Genesis 6, are angels who had sex with humans. Most of my study bibles state it as a fact! I, too used to hold the same view! But as my walk with the Lord through the many years increased and I came to know him more and more, I realized that this idea does not fit with the Lord of the Bible, or the nature of his agents: the angels, which he reveals in the Bible. It does not fit in with the plan of salvation, as it diminishes the uniqueness of the birth of Christ. And lastly, it does not fit in the world that he created; with the laws of nature that God set---which are found in scripture:
Gen 1:12--"And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good"
God does not allow different species to procreate! Men and animals can not have offspring---angels and humans are two different "kinds":
1 Cor.15:39-40-- "All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another."
This question should prayfully be studied. One should ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten the scriptures. and lead you to the truth. Every idea bears inspection. That is why God says: "Test all things, hold fast to that which is good." 1Thes.5:21. Be careful not to take chances about the things of God and your spirit. What you believe is the foundation upon which you build your actions.
The Gospel has withstood the test of time. Through faith in Jesus Christ we receive the Holy Spirit, who leads us to all truth. (1 John 2:27)
The Bible does not clearly present this idea of sexually active angels. As a matter of fact, this is the ONLY verse which could be considered to imply such a thing. Since it is not presented clearly, and Jesus said that Angels DO NOT MARRY...one must carefully consider the consequences of such a translation.
But, nowhere does the Bible say that Angels are heavenly pre-humans! These ideas are doctrines of man. Literally all pagan religions hold these doctrines of sexually active supernatural beings and premortal existence. The idea comes from a mixture of Judaism and Greek Mythology, with pagan worship, which started with the children of Israel in the wilderness; and which has plagued them throughout history. Some early Christian converts brought these ideas into Christianity.
The Bible does not teach that the "sons of God" are angels! There is only one verse in the Bible that clearly is speaking of the angels, when calling them "sons of God". The verse is, Job 38:7. NOTICE, that in the verse, God says Job was not there, when the "Sons of God shouted for joy"! So Job could not have been a premortal angel!
There are many verses in the Bible which tells us plainly, that the "sons of God" are, men who trust and believe in God and his Son. It is not wise to base your theology on one unclear verse. Look at these many witnesses:
John1:12: "To as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God." Romans 8:14: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."
Romans 8:14-15: "For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."
Hebrews 2: 11--"Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers."
Hebrews 12:5-8 " And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons."
Hebrews 1:5: "For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"?"
1 John 3:1-2 " How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is."
2 Corinthians 6:18: "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."
And the Bible plainly says that Angels "do not marry"; which means that they do not have sex; and they do not die! :
Matthew 22:30--"At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven."
Luke 20:34-36-- "Marriage is for people here on earth. But that is not the way it will be in the age to come. For those worthy of being raised from the dead won't be married then. And they will never die again. In these respects they are like the angels....." If it were true that these were angels, in Gen. 6; one could make the point that these angels were not in HEAVEN- they would be "fallen" angels, and Genesis 6 was not speaking of the resurrection. So the verse does not apply.
Look, Jesus said in the verses not that the angels will change at the resurrection, rather, that humans will---the composition of our bodies will change to be more like angels---the angels who do not die or marry! It is true that the fallen angels are not in heaven, but is there any verse, in the scriptures, that says that these "fallen" angels have different bodies than the angels in heaven? I do not believe there is even a scripture where they are called "fallen". The angels who followed Satan are still only "spirits":
Ephesians 6:12: "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (then I guess we do not struggle against "Kenites" either, pretty clear here!)
Hebrews 1:7: "In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire."
Hebrews 1:14: "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"
Hebrews 2:5: "It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking."
Hebrews 2:14-16: "Because God's children are human beings made of flesh and blood Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in humans form. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he deliver those who have lived all their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. We all know that Jesus came to help the descendants of Abraham, not to help the angels."
Our battle IS NOT WITH FLESH AND BLOOD! Not against so called "kenites" or "gebah" (sic) One needs flesh and blood to make a baby! Angels, fallen or not, do not have bodies compatible for reproduction with humans! They do not have sperm, or eggs. They live in a different time and space than humans do. We have seen in Luke 20:34-36 that God designed marriage and sex for human marriage. (Mark 10:6-8"For God's plan was seen from the beginning of creation, (not just this age, btw) for He made them male and female. This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one....") Did God make angels male and female, as a part of his plan from the beginning of creation? Are they having little "angels"? If they could have sex with humans surely they could have sex with each other! But, there is no evidence in scripture for that, so, this hypothesis of Angels having sex with humans or each other, must be rejected. Besides, all Life is God's prerogative. He makes a seed grow; it does not grow without his approval.
Psalm 139:13&14: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
John 1:3-4 "All things were made by Him. And without Him was NOT ANY THING MADE, THAT WAS MADE. IN HIM WAS LIFE; AND THE LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF MEN."
Acts 17:26-27-- "And He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation, that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us"
Job 32:8: "But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding."
Job 34:14-15--"If God were to take back his spirit and withdraw his breath, all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust."
Psalms 127:3: "Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward."
Would God allow the life of these supernatural hybrid children to continue? Would God reward the fallen angels and satan? Think about it. God says children are a reward. We see in Heb.1:14 and 2:16 that Jesus did not come to save angels and salvation is not for them. These beings would be half angels. These hybrid children would not fit into God's plan, would not be natural, thus he would not allow them to develop in the womb.
